The National Gallery of Art, Washington seeks a Head of Public Programs to direct and manage the Department of Public Programs. This position reports to the Head of Education and is responsible for the overall development, management, direction and evaluation of public programs including accessible programs, community programs, family programs, and academic programs, gallery talks and workshops for adults. Leads, develops, and supervises the Department of Public Programs staff of approximately twelve employees. Establishes performance goals and standards, supplies constructive feedback and training, and fosters an environment valuing diversity, integrity, and honesty, focused on ongoing improvement and customer service. Sets the broad strategic plan for and oversees the general direction of program areas. Incumbent leads community engagement and local outreach efforts for the institution, and seeks to raise the profile of public programming at the Gallery. Guides program areas in planning their annual suite of programs and offerings. Maintains a broad working knowledge of diverse program formats. Oversees the annual departmental budget, allocating funds and resources. S/he serves as a leader in efforts to conceptualize, innovate, and develop educational priorities informed by the needs and interests of diverse audiences, and seeks to strengthen the reach and impact of the Gallery's permanent collection and special exhibitions.
