Accountant, Senior, Not for Profit

Job Description #RPM Perform accounting/reporting functions associated with the College's not for profit entities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reviewing, reporting, auditing and analyzing expenditures for compliance with donor requirements, grant or contract requirements, governmental rules and regulations, proper account classifications, established college policies/procedures and conformity with accepted accounting principles. The jobholder must be able to interact with business partners on proper set-up of business processes for multiple non-profit entities.
Duties/Functions Duties related to Not for Profit Entities:
•Team with business partners on proper setup of business processes for multiple non-profit entities.
•Assist in implementation/conversion and updating of software products and updates. Assist in setup of accounting records for a start-up non-profit.
•Assist with grants/grant accounting for non-profit and/or college grant activity.
•Review, audit and analyze expenditures for compliance with donor requirements, grant or contract requirements, governmental rules and regulations, proper account classifications, established college policies/procedures and conformity with accepted accounting principles.
•Review data from donor management software for incorporation into accounting records.
•Assist business partners with budget activity, proper expenditure coding, understanding of reports and variance analyses and other accounting-related activities.
•Prepare reports and analyses as needed for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting including budget reports, board reports and regulatory reports.
•Perform various reconciliations and work to resolve any discrepancies.
•Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
•Ensure accuracy of subledgers and related systems. Reconcile subledgers to general ledger.
•Prepare schedules for year-end audits and assists with external audits.
•Ensure that all deliverables comply with regulatory guidelines and professional standards. Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork. Complete special projects as assigned. Serve on committees and work teams as assigned. Perform all duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Difficult Challenges •Reviewing Financials and Tax Returns to determine if each entity is in compliance with the IRS code, NC state regulations, and GAAP reporting.
•Determining how to handle direct payments to faculty/staff/students (Does the transaction run through the college's payroll/financial aid?).
•Determining what the college's state & county funds can/cannot pay for. Contacting the appropriate personnel to assist with determining who makes the payment.
•Flexibility with regards to changing technologies, methods, processes, work environments, organizational structures and business decisions.
•Working in a fast paced environment.
•Handling conflicting/changing priorities.

•Several times a week: President's Office re approvals
•Several times a week: VP Business and Finance / CFO re guidance
•Weekly: Cashier's Office re A/R student scholarship payments
•Weekly: Conference Center at GTCC re questions, reports, updates
Education Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
Education Preferred •Master's in Accounting or related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution. •CPA Preferred
Experience Required 5 years experience in Accounting.
Experience Preferred •Experience with Datatel Colleague and/or Great Plains preferred.
•Experience with Datawatch Monarch preferred.
•Non-Profit experience preferred.
KSA Required •Comprehensive knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. Knowledge of GAAP accounting and non-profit accounting.
•Strong systems skills in Excel and Access.
•Knowledge of statutory/regulatory accounting requirements.
•Ability to maintain job effectiveness under stress while adhering to strict deadlines and changing priorities.
•Ability to work independently and as a part of a team and take on new tasks with a high level of difficulty.
•Ability to work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his/her work product.

Department/Job Specific Requirements •Acceptable credit check and background check required.
•Training is required annually in Anti-Harassment, Family Education Right and Privacy Act (FERPA), Person Information Protection (PIP), Reporting Requirements, and Ethics Law in North Carolina and others as may be identified.
