Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks an exceptional leader to serve as the Founding Chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics. The department will provide education to medical and graduate students and also lead the development of collaborative research and scholarly activities in biomedical informatics. An ACGME-accredited fellowship leading to board certification in Clinical Informatics is planned with department and medical school faculty already in place. The department will also play a central role in the development of a new practice-based research network for faculty across the medical school and the Kalamazoo area. WMed, a private, nonprofit corporation supported by gifts, clinical revenues, research activities, tuition, and endowment income, is fully accredited by the LCME and also by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The inaugural medical student class graduated in 2018 after completing an innovative, patient-centered four-year curriculum that prepares them to be exceptional clinicians, leaders, educators, advocates, and researchers of tomorrow. There are more than 200 residents and fellows in ten residencies and three fellowships accredited by the ACGME WMed is a collaboration involving Western Michigan University, a national public doctoral university, and two award-winning teaching hospitals, Ascension Borgess Health and Bronson Healthcare, both nationally recognized for innovation and quality. The primary outpatient site for the medical school is a modern 60,000 square foot building on the Oakland Drive Campus. The 350,000 square foot educational building on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo-is the result of a $78 million design and expansion project including two laboratory research floors and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies. Additional qualifications include: medical degree and advanced training in a domain of biomedical informatics from an accredited program in informatics or data science, or board certification in clinical informatics; experience in a medical school setting with a working understanding of the clinical, educational, and research mission; eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
