Annual salary range: $144,414 to $175,539

The salary is supplemented by an extensive benefit package.

Located in California's beautiful capital city, the Sacramento County Employees' Retirement System is a public employee retirement system including the County of Sacramento, Superior Court of California in Sacramento, and eleven special districts. The System includes 26,000 members and a $9 billion fund balance. The General Counsel serves as the primary legal advisor to the Board, CEO, and staff regarding issues or legislation that may affect the System.

The ideal candidate possesses knowledge and experience specific to the operation of a public retirement system, including advising a multimember governing body and the ability to establish an effective working relationship with a diverse group of customers. The General Counsel is a key member of the executive team and plays a significant role in policy-making and leadership of the organization. Exceptional communication skills - both written and verbal - are essential to the General Counsel's success in order to present technical information in an easily understood manner to any type of audience. Creative problem-solvers who are resourceful in ascertaining information quickly and accurately and adept at finding a path through difficult issues will thrive in this environment.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a General Counsel. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess seven years of progressively responsible experience in a comparable legal environment, including involvement with litigation and program management. Must have a Juris Doctor degree from a fully accredited American Bar Association approved law school or equivalent qualification and be a current member of the California State Bar.
