Job Summary

This position is for a highly motivated manager to lead a team of 10-15 software engineers whose charter is to design and develop software for Joint Fires Systems. These solutions integrate tactical datalinks to perform a variety of missions, ranging from situational awareness, command and control, digitally aided close air support, and digitally aided fires.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct project leadership over the entire life cycle including bids, project management, design, requirements capture, coding, integration, verification, and certification

  • Provide technical leadership and accountability for team and project performance

  • Demonstrate a passion for coaching and mentoring

  • Possess systems and software engineering skills, critical and innovative thinking, strategic planning, and an ability to build and motivate a team

  • Identify, recruit, retain, and develop engineering talent across the spectrum of entry-level to very experienced system engineers

  • Build and leverage networks within the department, within Rockwell Collins

  • Communicate well with a wide variety of individuals including Engineering, Program Management, internal leadership, and customers

  • Strives to spend 50% of week performing technical tasks and oversight. Remaining time spent on people management, schedules and/or budgets

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following:

  • US Citizenship

  • Candidate must hold or be capable of obtaining a U.S. DOD Security Clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline

  • Practical experience in all phases of the life-cycle: pursuit, development, software integration and software test

  • Previous Software Manager, Software Lead or Software Project Engineer experience (minimum 5 years)

A successful candidate will possess the following:
  • Experience in embedded development using C, C++, Java

  • Experience in virtual machines or database management

  • Direct experience in development of software bid and proposal efforts

  • Experience/knowledge with software development methods such as Iterative or Agile

  • Experience working with multiple operating systems such as Android, Linux, and Windows.
