The Binghamton University (State University of New York) Department of Music invites applications for a CONCERT MANAGER position. The concert manager is charged with overseeing concert productions in the Department of Music for invited guest artist concerts, faculty recitals, student ensemble performances, student recital performances, public masterclasses and lectures, and other public performance offerings. The Department of Music offers B.A. and B. Mus degrees, as well as M.M. degrees with concentrations in opera/voice, instrumental performance, composition, music history and conducting. Essential Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities • Co-chairs the Music Department's Concert and Calendar committee and accepts concert proposals, reviews associated costs with the Department Chair and Administrative Assistant, and determines which proposals will be supported for the following year's performance season • Secures appropriate dates and venues for all approved concerts and creates a master concert schedule which lists all concerts, recitals, masterclasses, and lectures • Enters all events in campus and community online arts calendars • Maintains changes, updates and cancellations (if any) for all concerts and communicates changes to house managers, recording technicians, box office personnel, physical facilities staff, and all parties otherwise involved • Acts as a liaison between the Music Department and Anderson Center staff, faculty, students, and guest performers • Schedules rehearsals, concerts, lectures, and classes for the use of Casadesus Recital Hall and ensures events meet departmental and university regulations • Coordinates with campus community for use of Music Department ensembles at special events and coordinates with various arts community partners for the production of collaborative music events in the community • Creates concert work orders for the transport of instruments and equipment to and from concert venues • Creates press releases, concert posters, and other marketing materials for Music Department productions and coordinates video and photo shoots for upcoming concerts and schedules interviews with local television, newspaper, and radio media outlets • Schedules and coordinates weekly piano tuning needs for Music Department and Anderson Center events • Schedules and coordinates house managers and recording technicians for Music Department concerts and manages collection, distribution, and storage of Department performance recordings for archival purposes • Interviews, hires, and trains work study candidate for assistance with concert production • Ensures concert programs are camera ready and trade ads inserted in concert programs • Initiates and develops innovative ways to reach new target audiences on social media platforms • Curates current media from Music Department performances (video, audio) on Music Department webpage Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of arts management best practices • Knowledge of social media outlets and platforms for concert promotion and coverage • Proficiency in setting and maintaining calendars, schedules, and timetables • Ability to market concert productions to campus and community audiences • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus, guest artist, and arts community • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures Requirements • Bachelor's degree • One to two years of related work experience
Preferred • Equivalent of two to four years of experience in concert production management or arts management • Equivalent of two to four years of experience in marketing • Experience with web design maintenance and revision
