DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: Indiana University's Office of Online Education is charged with stimulating and managing growth and development of online degree and certificate programs marketed under the "IU Online" brand, which currently offers 125 online programs, and delivers more than 2,000 online courses each semester, for an enrollment in excess of 25,000 students. The Office of Online Education works extensively with personnel on all IU campuses, including chancellors, faculty, administrators, staff and students. The department's responsibilities include U.S., federal, state and international regulatory compliance, stimulating and supporting the development of academic program proposals, development and delivery of online courses, development and modification of the electronic/information technology platforms, marketing and recruitment, monitoring quality control and risk assessment issues at all levels, the seamless delivery of student services, data management and reporting, and managing financial resources to advance growth and development. Much of the work is innovative and designed to compete on a world stage of emerging markets and increasing demand for online education opportunities. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Data Analyst assists with the development of regular and ad-hoc reports for internal and external audiences, and supports university-level planning, governmental compliance reporting, accreditation, exploratory analysis, and institutional research and assessment activities. RESPONSIBILITIES: Design, modify, and test queries to pull data from a variety of existing data sources.Produce internal reports (admissions, enrollment, retention, graduation rates, etc.) for the Office of Online Education.Ensure proper data coding and data integrity through regular audits.Present data in visual and narrative forms for a variety of audiences.Design and maintain published reports as well as interactive dashboards for self-service analytics.Support the collection and submission of data to external survey institutions.Prepare documentation and training materials as needed to support the creation of data sources and reports, for proper implementation of university coding standards, and for the consumption of reports by end users. The Data Analyst position is located at the scenic IU Southeast campus in New Albany, IN, just 5 miles from downtown Louisville, Kentucky. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in computer science, informatics, management information systems or related field.Two years' experience with data analysis and reporting, business intelligence tools, and/or SQL programming, preferably in higher education.Experience using SQL, Excel, relational database or BI reporting tools, or data visualization software.Ability to write queries to pull, clean, blend, and analyze data from various sources.Ability to create visual and tabular reports with excellent attention to detail.Strong oral and written communication skills.Experience with data visualization software, such as Tableau, preferred.
