Chota Community Health Services: Chota Community Health Services (CCHS) is a non-profit Community Health Center, whose purpose is to offer comprehensive primary healthcare to the residents of the Monroe County area in East Tennessee. It was founded under the belief that our community should not have to travel to the 'bigger' cities in other counties in order to receive high quality medical care. While we have provided mental health counseling to Monroe County and surrounding areas for several years, we have recently been awarded a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) - Mental Health Grant and are looking to expand the services we currently provide to include treatment for substance abuse.
Summary: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides a wide range of mental health services to patients and families in a variety of settings. PMHNPs diagnose and prescribe medications for patients who have psychiatric disorders or substance abuse problems. They are licensed to provide emergency psychiatric services, psychosocial and physical assessment of their patients, treatment plans, and manage patient care. They may also serve as consultants or as educators for families and staff. The PMHNP has a focus on psychiatric diagnosis, including the differential diagnosis of medical disorders with psychiatric symptoms, and on medication treatment for psychiatric disorders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with SUD program development as well as the development of policies/procedures related to SUD. Assist with educating staff, patients, and the community regarding SUD. Function as liaison between outside substance abuse treatment centers and mental health centers. Expedite patient referral to outside centers and enable patients that come from outside centers to establish outpatient care with CCHS Work with local judicial and legal services to establish a drug/recovery court that enables legal pressure to expedite patients recovery from substance abuse Assist other providers at CCHS in providing outpatient substance abuse treatment as necessary Work with our supervising psychiatrist to provide the most up to date and evidence based treatment for CCHS patients. Functions under approved medical protocols. Adheres to policies and procedures. Examination of patients, diagnosis, the prescription of medicine, and providing treatment for psychiatric illnesses, including substance use disorder. Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care to treat psychiatric illness or disease. Order, perform, and interpret tests and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' condition. Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results. Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals. Maintains records and appropriate documentation regarding practice activities. Monitor patients' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary. Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients and/or family members. Advise patients concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention. Provide health and wellness advice to patients, program participants, or caregivers. Evaluates patient responses to educational endeavors. Promotes standards for care in the community. Refer patients to medical specialists, other practitioners, or other resources when necessary. Continues professional development by attending seminars and conferences. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment. Participate in Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Care Team collaboration Obtains and maintains credentialing by insurance companies. Is familiar with the various insurance plans Center wants to be providers with, follows their agreements regarding referrals, pre-certification, prescriptions, hospitalization, and other utilization requirements and expectations.
