SALARY: $17.00/Hour APPLY BY: February 17, 2019 PURPOSE: Target 12-week Internship Dates: 5/13/19 - 8/01/19 (4-10 work schedule M-Th 5am - 3:30pm)

Work collaboratively with the CAP Senior Biologist to gain hands-on experience in a broad range of biological issues that impact the CAP system. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in scientific investigations of aquatic nuisance species that impact the CAP canal and its infrastructure, including quagga mussels, Cymbella, hydroids and aquatic vegetation. Conducts mapping surveys of aquatic vegetation and sediment deposition in CAP source water and the canal itself.Samples fish populations to determine general health and food habits.Maintains water quality meters to ensure accurate measurement and recording of data.Utilizes laboratory equipment to analyze various biological samples.At end of the 12-week engagement, intern will prepare and deliver a presentation which includes:A summary of the workWhat he/she learnedAn evaluation of the intern experience at CAPRecommendations for future interns CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS: Junior or higher level student (or recent grad) working toward a degree in Fisheries, Wildlife Biology, or similar field.Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.Must have a valid Driver's License, maintain a good driving record, and have at least two years of driving experience.Must pass Arizona Game and Fish Department Boater Safety Course.Proficient in the use of computers to enter and analyze data.Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.Must submit a one-page essay and transcripts (official or unofficial) with the online application.Must be legally authorized to work a paid internship in the United States.
