The research group of Prof. Ina Bergheim (Chair Molecular Nutrition) at the Department of Nutritional Sciences is looking for support for a third-party-funded interdisciplinary research project focusing on the development and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases. We are a young and interdisciplinary research team working at the interfaces between nutrition and the development of metabolic diseases. We build on a good working atmosphere, close collaboration with our students and co-workers as well as self-dependent involvement and co-ordination of research projects. Duration of contract: 3 years. This position will be available immediately.

Duration of employment: 3 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
The objective of the present project is to study mechanisms of the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and in particular the role of endogenous alcohol synthesis and hepatic alcohol metabolism herein. You will be responsible for the conceptualization, co-ordination and supervision of in vivo and in vitro studies to address related research questions. In particular, molecular mechanisms involved in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and alterations of hepatic alcohol metabolism will be in the focus of your work. Participation in paper writing and publication is expected.

Profile:
A PhD in the field of nutritional sciences or related disciplines ir mandatory as well as a high interest in nutritional sciences, cell and molecular biology. Hands-on experiences in histological analysis and clinical chemistry, immunohistochemistry analyses, gene and protein expression analyses of tissue as well as experiences in working with model organisms is required. The ability to work in highly dynamic research teams as well as high interpersonal and communications skills and theability to work independently are expected.
