MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for tooling design, costing and planning (and involvement in Advanced Quality Planning and Product Part Approval Process), in addition to placing tooling orders. Technical Support and direction of pattern makers internally and externally.
Shared point of contact for technical and quality issues arising internally either from Coreshop and DISA patterns. Liaison with colleagues to assist in the resolution of said issues.
Collaborating with the Sales Department in the management and processing of estimates, quotations and general New Work processes.
Implementation and review of processes and process controls to optimise product quality and to minimise costs, as well as internal and external reject levels. Participation in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing teams, and the problem-solving activities of colleagues to the benefit of the company. Identification of project areas with particular scope for continuous improvement.
Optimisation of tooling and runner system designs to maximise casting yield whilst maintaining / maximising product quality and minimising internal and external reject levels. Use of the MagmaSoft mould filling and solidification simulation software to assist in the resolution of foundry issues.
Co-ordination, documentation and communication of internal problem-solving activities within the foundry (such activities being documented using relevant internal systems, e.g. Engineering Change Request Notes, Process Trials Record, Improvement Log, etc.)
Participation in the Technical & Quality Review Meeting when required, the general activities of the Technical Quality Department. Undertaking of other duties, as communicated through the Line Manager and / or Senior Management, to assist in general foundry and wider group operations.
Responsible for machine shop engineering support activities, including but not limited to, NC programming (long hand and CAM), jig/fixture design, authoring shop floor documentation and assisting pass off of new product.
Participation in FEA disc design as and when required.
Experience of Solidworks required. 3D modelling knowledge/experience also an advantage.
