ESS Recruit’s client was founded in 2016 after winning the prestigious Scottish Higgs EDGE 2016 for its development of a Graphene layer manufacturing process.
With industry standard cycle times to produce Graphene in the region of 16 hours RD Graphene’s disruptive (patent pending) design for manufacture (DfM) process (patent pending) creates 3D graphene in seconds and therefore enables high volume manufacture.
To support the Operation team, we are looking for hands-on Process Engineer to join our team of engineers dedicated to scale up products in the energy fields.
The successful candidate will work in our graphene operation team to implement chemical processes into manufacturing to translate those process from a lab environment to full scale production.
He/she will work on new supercapacitor and /or battery chemistry and test these using a range of electrochemical and optical testing techniques.
The chosen candidate will have a high degree of freedom to operate and it is expected that he/she is a self-reliant achiever and thrives in small, innovative teams.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Devising new processes, or refining existing ones, to optimise the manufacturing process;
Planning, carrying out and supervising process trials in laboratories, pilot plants or factories;
Scaling up the production process via plant trials, making changes to raw materials or components and process parameters to ensure quality is maintained during large-scale production;
Improving yields by reducing costs, for example investigating alternative materials or new machinery to improve efficiency and quality in bottle neck areas;
Devising test methods to assess the production process;
Validating new processes and showing that they are an improvement;
Work closely with R&D, production and QC team to ensure methods are developed and implemented in time to meet project/customer deadlines
Advising on equipment modification to enable process changes for new product development;
Ensure methods are developed in accordance with current regulatory expectations Education and experience:
B.Sc. degree in Chemistry / chemical Engineering
3+ years’ experience within product development, preferably working with energy storage system (battery, supercapacitor, fuel cell)
Strong, practical laboratory skills - including data recording and record keeping.
Industrial experience gained with a manufacturer of chemicals.
Demonstrated expertise in scale up of manufacturing process from lab to commercial operations.
