Web Application Support Engineer

Focus IT have the pleasure of working with this WELL established Conveyance Company. The client is seeking an experienced Web Application Support Engineer to compliment their existing team. Joining a rapidly expanding software company developing innovative new products for the property and legal services sectors. Customers include: Lloyds Banking Group & Moneysupermarket.
Working in partnership with the IT support, software development and infrastructure teams the primary responsibility for this role is to ensure that their in-house written and hosted web applications are functioning correctly and that problems are investigated & fixed promptly.
Day to day, this involves responding to events detected by their sophisticated monitoring and logging systems, dealing with support tickets escalations for issues reported by users, working proactively to fix repetitive issues and raising system performance issues with infrastructure or development.
Good communication skills are essential to clearly communicate technical things to audiences of all levels; from end users with basic computer skills to developers at other companies working to integrate with our web services.
This role was established a number of years ago to support their sizable software development team by separating the concerns of new system development and maintenance & support.
This is a varied technical role which comes with a high degree of autonomy and it will suit someone used to managing their own priorities, setting themselves goals to find and fix bugs, improve processes through implementing automation and improving our systems by submitting change requests & bug fixes to the development team.
The ideal candidate would have prior experience in supporting web applications
built using technologies such as: C# webforms, MVC, WCF web services, MSSQL.
Any experience of web application development would be beneficial. Whilst this is not a development role they will consider candidates who would like to use this role a route into software development, they have a large development team and for the right candidate who is driven and learns quickly we are willing to develop them whilst they operating in the application support role.

- Good communication skills are essential since you will be communicating daily with people with varying IT competency
- Approachable and helpful personality
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work on things in parallel in a fast-paced environment
- Own issues and coordinate responses to ensure issues get resolved
- Flexible approach to working since the role may require some out of hours work
- Experience in a 3rd line support oriented role
- Any development experience with any of the following:
o C#, webforms and MVC
o WCF web services
o Microsoft SQL Server
- Use of any of the following products:
o Visual Studio, Tortoise SVN, Mantis Bug Tracker, JIRA
This role is based in Thame, Oxfordshire and is also commutable from Aylesbury, Leighton buzzard, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Dunstable, Tring, Luton, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, Berkhamsted, Chesham, High Wycombe, Abingdon, Kidlington, Winslow, Bicester, Didcot, Henley on Thames, Marlow , Watford, Hertfordshire, Reading, Slough, Berkshire and North London.
