Gap professional are operating as an employment agency on behalf of its client, a reputable based company who are looking for a Senior Finance Assistant

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Sherbourne

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 9am-5pm

Salary: Negotiable


You will be responsible for overseeing a small team of finance assistants who administer the personal day to day finances of a high net worth family. You will have extensive training from the Finance Team Supervisor during the first few months of your employment on all bookkeeping duties, management accounts preparation and reporting. It will be imperative that you are able to fulfil the responsibilities personally of the finance assistants you will be managing.

Once this initial training period is completed, you will be responsible for the bookkeeping, VAT, CIS, management accounts, statutory accounts and audit files for a small number of other entities which could include limited companies and partnerships within the property, retail, wholesale and consultancy sectors in addition to overseeing the family team.

Main Responsibilities:

* Ensure all finance functions and accounting records are maintained and management accounts prepared accurately and in a timely manner

* Prepare CIS and VAT returns and ensure these are submitted on time

* Review the bookkeeping and payment runs of the finance assistants and provide constructive feedback

* Create statutory accounts with supporting year-end audit files where required for internal and external audit review

* Ensure all entities are compliant with all relevant tax and company laws

* Undertake project work as required

* Ensure that your CPD record is well maintained

* Provide holiday and sickness cover for other team members when required

* Report to the Finance Team Supervisor


* Is AAT qualified (or qualified by experience)/studying towards the ACCA/CIMA qualification with at least three years of relevant accounting/audit experience, ideally working in a practice or an audit environment

* Has experience of managing a small team (desirable)

* Has experience of VAT, with knowledge of CIS being an advantage

* Has integrity, discretion and the ability to deal with confidential information

* Has excellent administration and communication skills (both written and verbal with attention to detail)

* Is tactful, diplomatic and approachable, with the ability to deal assertively with a wide range of people

* Has excellent IT skills, a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience of using accounting software

* Is flexible and willing to learn

* Enjoys working on their own or as part of a wider team, being a team player is key.


* Salary dependant on experience
