ESSENTIAL OT JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises daily operation of occupational therapy treatment area including scheduling of occupational therapy patient.
  • Ensure that quality care is being provided to all occupational therapy patients.
  • Communicate with clinical director on clinical issues, complaints and problems arising among patients, doctors, staff, third parties, etc.
  • Assure that all occupational therapy department equipment is maintained in a safe and working order.
  • Market the occupational therapy program and conduct public relations activities.
  • Maintain inventory, order equipment and supplies for occupational therapy.
  • Assist occupational therapy personnel in developing appropriate continuing education plans.
  • Evaluate patients following the protocol for evaluating new patients including gathering and reviewing pertinent data, administering evaluations and analyzing the results.
  • Formulate treatment plan and goals based on analysis of evaluation results.
  • Implement and coordinate occupational therapy treatment according to treatment plan.
  • Formulate, design and implement orthotic and assistive devices and training for independent function.
  • Re-evaluate patients in a timely manner and adjust treatment plan and goals as needed.
  • Analyze and summarize evaluation and treatment results and report (written and verbal) to referral sources and other appropriate persons.
  • Formulate discharge plans with treatment team.
  • Attend lectures and educational courses as needed to maintain quality of care.
  • Plan, organize and conduct in-service program as requested.
  • To evaluate, upon doctors orders, the social and vocational needs of all patients, to counsel and advise on social and vocational problems arising from the patient's illness or injury and to make appropriate referrals for required services.
  • To arrange, as per determined by the initial evaluation, subsequent treatment sessions.
  • Help the patient and family to understand, accept and follow medical recommendations and provide services planned to restore the patient to the optimum level of social and health adjustment.
  • Assist the patient and family with personal and environmental difficulties which predispose toward illness or interfere with obtaining maximum benefits from medical care.
  • Utilize all available resources, such as family and community agencies, to assist the patient to resume life in the community or to live within the disability.
  • Observe, record, and report social and emotional change.
  • Prepare progress notes for the medical record.
  • Participate in discharge planning as appropriate.
  • Prepare in-service programs for the agency staff as needed to assist them in caring for the social and emotional needs of the patient.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current occupational therapy licensure to practice in Florida.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Must be Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) certified.
