About the Department

The Enterprise Division comprises four companies: Contracting, Rail, Telecoms and Utilities. The SSE Enterprise Projects and Operational Support Team support the entire Enterprise division leading the deployment of best practice in assurance, project management, engineering and in handling strategic projects.

SSE Enterprise Utilities is the Distributed Energy and Private Networks business of SSE plc. We finance, own, operate and maintain energy infrastructure for commercial, industrial and residential customers - providing them with a market leading project development service and certainty of operational performance and asset management.

What is the Role

Due to continued growth in our Major Project (Distributed Energy) division of SSE Enterprise, we have an opportunity for an experienced Bid Manager. This role is primarily to support the Business Development Directive and Sector Directors in pursuit of opportunities by managing the Major Projects (DE) Bid Teams in the creation of compelling bespoke proposals and tender responses for strategic clients.

The role will be to oversee the completion and submission of a completed bid for the Major Projects (DE) team on time and within budget. Working under the direction of the Senior Bid Manager, the role involves leading all day to day aspects of an individual bid. The Bid manager will be involved in every aspect of the submission and have an keen appreciation of the client needs and how best the Major Projects (DE) team can provide and deliver what is required.

The Bid Manager is the first point of contact for the client and will liaise with the wider project team to obtain cost, technical and such appropriate information to ensure an excellent quality compliant bid is produced.

Working across multiple projects, within the Major Project (DE) Directive, you will support members of the Major Projects team at all levels with various aspects of bid management.

Key duties within the role are:

- Creating compelling proposals and bid responses

- Creating high quality content in response to major tenders

- Tender response delivery

- Bid team management

- Executing bid governance

So that SSE can deliver on its core value of providing the energy people need in a reliable and sustainable way.

What do I need?

You will have extensive experience as Bid Manager with significant involvement of operating successfully in a large corporation, preferably involved in the Energy, M&E Contracting, Energy Services, Technology and/or Facilities Management industries.

Practical knowledge of bid methodology and processes from sales pursuit to post-award activities with significant experience in cross-business, high value bids exceeding £50m is highly desirable.

Demonstrable leadership skills to drive the work of collaborative virtual teams in planning, designing and delivering solicited proposals and tender responses is required. You'll have strong people management skills with the ability to motivate and coach bid teams.

With strong interpersonal and persuasion skills and an ability to quickly build gravitas with senior colleagues across delivery verticals to meet challenging bid goals will aid you greatly in this position.

You will have brilliant technical writing skills and prior knowledge of generating compelling proposal content. Furthermore, confidence in the use of software packages to aid in the creation and maintenance of complex documentation is required.

Ideally you will have operated successfully within a matrix management structure combined with a successful track record of operating across vertical business markets to generate integrated service solutions for large corporate accounts.

Finally, an excellent knowledge of industry best practise required to create high quality tender responses for large, sophisticated customers with multi-service requirements.
