Research Associate in Shale Gas Sustainability

A postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an outstanding specialist in sustainability assessment to undertake research addressing the environmental and social implications of shale gas development. In particular, you will review and develop life cycle assessment models for shale gas extraction and processing in the UK, using up-to-date data from the continuously evolving pre-commercial domestic shale gas industry. Alongside these activities, you will investigate the potential role of life cycle assessment and other environmental impact assessment approaches in the social construction of unconventional gas by interacting with members of the public via surveys and workshops in the field.
You should have, or be working towards, a PhD (or equivalent) involving sustainability assessment, preferably including systems related to energy generation. Extensive expertise in life cycle assessment is essential. You will also require excellent written communication skills, as demonstrated by a track record of high-quality journal and conference publications, and experience of oral communication of scientific topics to non-scientific audiences and/or the general public.
