Make a difference as Director Global Material Development, R&D (m/f/d)
  • Define and develop new elastomer formulations to be used as primary packaging material in medical devices for injectable drug products
  • Define and execute a multi-year strategic plan for elastomer development aligned with the packaging components strategy
  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) for all material (mainly elastomer, plastic and coatings) related questions and problems
  • Manage R&D laboratory that supports all R&D activities of the R&D Kiefernweg Eschweiler team
  • Support and maintain the life cycle management of active elastomer formulations. This includes alternative raw materials as well as customer and operations support
  • Scientific understanding of the materials and their potential interaction with drug products. Stay up-to-date with trends and new materials by building up an external network with suppliers, knowledge centers and universities
  • Stay on the leading edge of the technology areas and pharma/biotech market trends
  • Define and execute a material research roadmap
  • Manage and coach a team of 4 direct reports (3 Material Managers, 1 R&D Lab Manager with 2 Lab Technicians)

  • M. Sc./Engineer or equivalent in Chemistry, Material Sciences or similar
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in material development, process development or a similar role
  • Knowledge of rubber chemistry and/or rubber processing would be an asset
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques to understand the chemistry and extractables of elastomeric formulations
  • Strong management and organizational skills as well as very good communication skills
  • Results-oriented
  • Fluency in English is required; German language skills would be a plus (the willingness to learn is important)
  • Ability and willingness to travel globally
