National Director, Market Access

The Direct Market Access Team will be a key member of the client's market access department responsible for the development and implementation of the launch and long-term strategy for national/regional payers to assure not only coverage but access to the product. The team will also coordinate with sales leadership on pull-through strategies. This position will involve extensive coordination with the Market Access Department, Marketing, Commercial Operations, Sales, Regulatory, Legal, Compliance, Finance, IT, external consulting groups, and vendors (as needed). This individual will build and lead the Field Market Access Director team. Reporting to VP of Market Access, you will be responsible for developing a strong capability within the organization. In this role you will:
Develop and execute the organization's payer coverage and access strategies including long and short term national and regional payer strategies and tactics.
Track and educate internal stakeholders regarding current payer landscape trends, priorities and considerations for longer-term strategies. This may include non-traditional payers such as risk-bearing healthcare provider entities.
Support development, internal education, and external education of value propositions for launch product(s)
Oversee and develop payer positioning for upcoming US launches including input to launch pricing and contracting approaches.
Ensure optimal staffing for field payer function; build, lead and develop a high performing team of coverage and access professionals. Responsible for the team's resource readiness.
With Marketing/US Market Access Lead, develop payer and channel field materials including education, economic value, and targeted engagement to support successful market penetration strategies in the U.S.
Ensure programs are developed and implemented that will enable wide patient accessibility to the product(s).
Participate in cross-functional teams with key internal stakeholders to ensure that access strategies are implemented and tracking to established goals.
Establish key metrics for the payer coverage and access team. Mobilize and motivate team to ensure deliverables and expectations are met.
Maintain excellence in team leadership, partner management, contracting, compliance and quarter end management (SOPs, work instructions, processes, governance).
Actively participate and contribute to the Market Access Team and all formal and informal teams.
Along with demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness and a results-oriented mindset, the ideal candidate has:
Bachelor's degree required
10+ years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
8+ years of experience within Payer/National Accounts leadership
Launch experience strongly desired
Experience with an emerging commercial company is valued
Experience building and leading field teams and managing and developing people
Prior experience working with specialty biotech/pharmaceutical products as payer lead
Extensive knowledge of distribution networks, managed care, reimbursement, and contract negotiation processes
Strong decision-making skills and ability to communicate issues effectively to senior leadership
Ability to take initiative and act independently exercising strong business judgement within the scope of the role
Ability to detect, analyze, and resolve complex issues inherent in managing distribution models for multiple brands
Excellent leadership, management and organizational skills, along with problem solving, conflict resolution and team building
Must demonstrate highly refined analytic and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment
Ability to travel 50% or more, depending on business needs
