Senior Software Engineer/Lead
Posted on Nov 5, 2020 by Alarm.com
Alarm.com is looking for a versatile Senior Software Engineer to work on our core smart home platform, which powers all the team's smart home product offerings. You'll have the opportunity to work across a variety of technical areas: in-home communication protocols, data ingestion, machine learning frameworks, and much more.
Very few small companies innovate and develop across such a broad range of technologies as Alarm.com. This position is ideal for the candidate who seeks a small, friendly company culture where one can work closely with smart and highly productive people. Getting to work with cutting edge software and hardware to develop outstanding consumer products is the icing on the cake.
WHAT WILL YOU DO FOR ALARM.COM?
Develop full stack software for a wide variety of platforms and technologies.
Engage in the research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems.
Take part in the entire project life cycle, from requirements development to deployment.
Work hard and be flexible: we have quick development cycles, evolving requirements, and lots of cross-team collaboration.
Exercise good judgment. Know when to work quickly, and when to build a robust solution. Your work will be used by multiple business units, so you will need to consider many use cases when developing.
Bring your ideas! We want our engineers to collaborate on product development, not blindly build to a spec.
You will own projects and potentially teams, and you must be able to communicate effectively and blend multiple business needs in your work. Our platform supports several business units, so there are always multiple perspectives to consider. We also work at scale - we have millions of customers and millions of devices sending us data all the time. Honestly these devices won't shut up!
WHAT SKILLS DO YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL?
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
5+ years of professional software development experience
Experience leading and mentoring other engineers
Strong object-oriented programming skills; C# a plus
Experience with database design and development
Knowledge of networking concepts, principles, and technologies
Experience working with physical systems; major bonus points if you have experience with Z-Wave or ZigBee, either professionally or recreational.
