The University of South Carolina, College of Nursing is seeking a qualified candidate eligible for the rank of Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate, or Clinical Professor to fill a Full time program director for the newly approved Nursing Informatics (NI) program. In addition to teaching, this administrative position includes opportunities for course development, clinical practice and research/scholarship activities. Faculty appointment and salary are commensurate with the level of experience in the field of NI, teaching, leadership, and scholarship experience of the candidate.

The candidate would provide classroom instruction; provide day-to-day program operational oversight, and assisting students toward successful program completion in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and/or experience teaching in the informatics field or graduate nursing curricula with the application of innovative classroom delivery, simulation methodologies and scholarship application. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to the professional development of nursing students, practice, and leadership.


Serves as leader in recruitment and retention efforts for the NI program, providing expertise of program knowledge (working closely with Executive Director of Student Affairs and Graduate Admissions Manager)
Serves on the admission review committee for students applying to the program and provides final admission recommendations to the Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies
Provides guidance to student affairs staff on admission issues
Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of new student orientation
Leads communication on behalf of the program for program students as appropriate
Works with student affairs coordinators to assure appropriate academic advising, development, and implementation of individualized programs of study, progression and graduation.
Advise students on registration (eg, prerequisites, courses, clinical, directed studies, capstone projects, comprehensive exams or thesis credits).
Works with student affairs coordinators to assure all background and health clearances are intact for clinical and/or research experiences
Audit academic records and clear for graduation in conjunction with student affairs coordinators
Program Quality Management
Monitor national trends and standards for specialty area practice and informatics guidelines, relating these to curriculum and ensuring that the curriculum and procedures are in line with these standards. Communicate changes and trends with CON faculty.
Assures program is in compliance with AACN MSN Essentials, SC BON or other professional organization standards as appropriate for the specialty.
Participate in on-going curriculum decisions related to program specialty, including course content, sequencing, and evaluation methods.
Revises graduate handbook with Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies
Work with students to establish and maintain clinical placement sites
Provides orientation materials and contacts with clinical preceptors
Assures students follow clinical contract requirements
Assures appropriate evaluation tools are completed and summary data submitted to Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies, including Preceptor and site evaluations, preceptor clinical data (license, etc.), student clinical logs, preceptor evaluations of students, and/or surveys.
Participate in review of quality outcome assessment and revisions as necessary.
Management of Academic Issues within Program
Serves as a resource and leader to faculty within the program.
Serves as a resource and leader for students in the program. Analyze matriculation issues and provide input as requested regarding decisions that affect the students progression.
Works with Executive Director of Student Affairs to mitigate student issues
Works with the Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies and/or Associate Dean of Academics to mitigate faculty issues

Required Education and Experience

Earned doctorate in Nursing (PhD or DNP ), two years of teaching and mentoring of graduate students and graduate nursing curricula. Experience in the field of Nursing Informatics, teaching, leadership, and scholarship. Excellent written and oral communication skills, team building, self-motivation, and innovation in educational program offerings are expected.
