Director, Housing and Residence Life

The Director of Housing Services and Residential Life reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Life/Dean of Students and is the chief housing officer for the university. The Director provides leadership, vision, and guidance for the overall planning, development and implementation of programs, services and facilities with an emphasis on student development, retention and satisfaction. The Director is responsible for all aspects of housing operations and services including: personnel management; operations; budget management; contract management; marketing assessment; strategic planning; facility maintenance; student programming; student outreach; and custodial services. Facilities currently include approximately 1000 bed spaces in an apartment style setting, community spaces and dining commons. The director will provide leadership for the expansion of housing to 2,500 bed spaces.
and Experience: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and three years of progressively responsible experience in a student- housing environment. Demonstrated interest and ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
: Master's degree. Experience as head of a department or director of a program. Experience using participatory management principles for supervision and decision-making. Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to foster positive working relations and partnerships within the University. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven record of successfully working with students, faculty, staff, and external community members. Leadership demonstrated by a record of accepting responsibility, taking prudent risks and accomplishing organizational goals by fulfilling the potential of staff members.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
Appointment: The Administrator II appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
