Director, Business Development

The newly created Director, Business Development role will establish partnerships with biopharma companies. You will bring industry and technical experience, strategic perspective, excellent business development skills, and the ability to clarify and summarize complex issues with attention to detail. You also possess exceptional analytical skills regarding the technical and financial requirements of the role and effectively influence and communicate cross-functionally with all management levels within Freenome and its partner organizations. You thrive in a team-oriented environment and lead by example while working cross-functionally and with accountability for delivering results.
How youll contribute:
Develop and implement a cohesive strategic plan for global business development with a focus on biopharma partnerships. The strategic plan will include clear business objectives, measurable performance targets, concrete strategies and tactics, and an executable framework for prioritizing opportunities within the context of Freenome's mission.
Lead and implement the full partnership development cycle, including opportunity identification and prioritization, market research, needs analysis, presentation of partner-centric solutions, negotiation and contracting, implementation, milestone achievement, and delivery.
Develop and form partnership agreements focusing on biopharma collaborations; work closely with senior leaders within those companies to define and initiate collaborative projects that advance their programs.
Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external groups to articulate Freenome's multiomics platform's strengths and scientific approach to secure business development agreements.
Work with Freenome's leadership to explore, frame, and operationalize partnership strategies, including acquisitions, partnerships, investments, licensing agreements, and other strategic growth opportunities.
Analyze industry dynamics, evaluate new opportunities and technologies, and assess the competitive landscape to define potential partnerships supporting Freenome's key initiatives; develop business models to analyze deals and performance.
Work with internal teams to ensure organizational understanding of partner requirements and how these are integral to Freenome's objectives.
Lead business development initiatives and contribute to Freenome as a senior leader; provide cultural and business leadership by demonstrating proficiency in clinical diagnostics, business development, formal and informal communication, program management, people development, and mentorship to a broad set of roles across the company.
What Youll Bring:
Undergraduate degree, MBA, or an advanced degree in an analytical, technical, or scientific field, preferred
A minimum of ten years of sales or business development experience in diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices, or a closely related field OR at least five years in investment banking, corporate development, M&A experience with five years of operational business development experience in these fields
At least six years of demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams to deliver remarkable results and growth
Demonstrated ability to structure, negotiate, and contract collaborative partnerships and agreements with a track record of success outlined in your Deal Sheet
Successful industry experience at a start-up or early-stage company combined with experience at a later stage company
Experience at an In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) company
Working knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence
Knowledge of oncology and the application of existing and developing technologies in this field
Leadership experience managing a team that spans multiple geographies and cultures
Proven success in developing comprehensive strategies and executing integrated plans to achieve performance targets, along with the consistent ability to apply critical and strategic thinking to each opportunity while moving fast to make an extraordinary impact for Freenome and its partners
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively, as a team leader and a team member, with all internal and external partners and stakeholders
Established network across the biopharma landscape; strong customer focus with the ability to effectively and quickly build relationships built on trust, respect, and results-oriented communication
Working knowledge of product development, regulatory, and scientific affairs as it relates to the fields of pharmaceuticals and molecular diagnostics; proven ability to operate in absolute compliance with all applicable regulations and standards affecting pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies
Proven abilities in presenting complex scientific data and information in a manner that is understood by the audience while ensuring it is relevant and compelling
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills across a range of forums and mediums
Demonstrated record of being resourceful in finding ways to achieve objectives
