Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property, Cambridge, MA
Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking a Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property to join BMS' research and development center in Cambridge, MA. The attorney will support clients across multiple functional areas to build and leverage BMS' intellectual property interests, with a focus on biotechnology. Responsibilities include the full scope of global pharmaceutical and biotechnological patent issues including client counseling; patent preparation and prosecution; rendering legal opinions with respect to patentability, validity, and freedom to operate; due diligence reviews; and intellectual property-related transactional work. The attorney will work closely with clients in various functions in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment and will collaborate with other in-house and outside attorneys to accomplish BMS objectives.
The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:
J.D. degree or equivalent and admission to at least one state bar.
8 or more years of patent experience in the biotechnology field, or an equivalent combination of patent and pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry experience.
Registered to practice before the USPTO and eligible to practice in Massachusetts or obtain a limited license for in-house counsel.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the biological and/or chemical sciences. An advanced degree in the biological sciences is preferred.
Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
Service-oriented focus with ability to work as part of cross-functional teams and drive results.
Highest integrity, excellent judgment and the ability to proactively recognize and effectively communicate legal issues to patent, legal and general management
