Refrigeration Engineer - Food & Consumer Products

The Refrigeration Engineer will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations, additions, and assessments on a variety of projects including food distribution, food processing, consumer products, mission critical, manufacturing processes, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical facilities. The Refrigeration Engineer will work with the project team throughout the planning, design and construction process, adapting design documents according to budgetary constraints, design factors and clients' needs.
Perform refrigeration design for projects from the conceptual phase through design completion including, but not limited to
Develop, manage, and maintain labor budgets with the Project Manager for the refrigeration design.
Applies strong knowledge of commonly used refrigeration engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the refrigeration engineering services industry.
Establish conceptual design layout, programming documents, and drawing sheet layouts.
Guide staff Mechanical Designers on developing/updating REVIT Organizationel and drawings.
Develop refrigeration specifications based on project and client specific requirements.
Research and compile project related data as required by the project manager.
Compiles information for client presentations, lifecycle cost analysis, system/utility assessment, shop drawing review, contract administration, and PHA for the design of refrigeration system.
Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
All other duties as assigned.
Perform assessments on new and existing refrigeration systems including, but not limited to
Develop summary of facility, utility usage, findings, opportunities, rate of return, and conclusion.
Interview facility management to identify operational parameters and refrigeration operators to identify operational challenges.
Guide staff Mechanical Engineers in collecting information from the facility including refrigeration drawings, photos, archive refrigeration data, field measurements, and field observations.
Work with staff Mechanical Engineers to analyze collected information, establish refrigeration load profile, and identify opportunities for improvement/enhancement.
Compile report for client review and sCompanyequent discussions.
Act as advisor and/or owner's representative, on projects where a third-party designer (or design/build contractor) is required, to guide the overall refrigeration design on behalf of the project team including, but not limited to
Establish basis of design narratives and diagrams for the projects.
Perform load calculations associated with rooms and processes.
Develop RFP document for solicitation of proposal from multiple designers.
Review proposals from multiple designers for compliance to RFP.
Facilitate and document refrigeration design discussions with selected designer.
Review refrigeration design for compliance to commonly used refrigeration engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the refrigeration engineering services industry.
Coordinate the refrigeration design with the project team.
Act as an advisor to the Project Manager.
Mentor and advise staff Mechanical Engineers on refrigeration principals, design, and assessments.
Actively participate in industry organizations connected to refrigeration system design, construction, operating, and commissioning.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program.
7 years of industrial refrigeration engineering experience, consulting preferred.
Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit, excellent written, and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Strong computer skills (eg Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and process/room load analysis programs.
Ability to travel.
