Director, Training & Education, Stanford Impact Labs

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Faculty Director in the immediate term (and eventually reporting to an incoming Executive Director), the Director of Training & Education will directly oversee the strategy, design, and delivery of all SIL education and culture programs; develop and teach curriculum for each; and serve as a key member of the leadership team shaping growth and impact of SIL. Central to SIL's theory of change is partnership with external partners, and many core duties of this role will require working in partnership with external organizations. This is a one-year fixed-term position.
Strategy, design and delivery of all SIL education and culture programs:
Lead on the design and implementation of all SIL education focused programmatic priorities, including the faculty Impact Lab Design Fellowship, faculty Scholars in Service program, graduate student Collaborative Research Fellowship, and Post-Doctoral Fellowship programming.
Work across the SIL team to make recommendations for how to promote and develop new educational opportunities as part of current programming. Serve as strategic lead in holding funded impact labs accountable for their educational commitments.
Continually assess, make recommendations and iterate on the design and implementation of SIL programs using ongoing assessment tools and mid-and end-of program evaluation.
Develop and maintain relationships across the Stanford University campus to identify and pursue high-impact opportunities for SIL to partner and collaborate with impact labs, institutions and campus leaders.
Partner closely with Associate Directors as expert staff lead on educational and culture projects under SIL umbrella.
Develop and oversee strategic financial planning and budget management of education programs. Work with the SIL administration and operations team to ensure appropriate compliance and controls.
As the portfolio expands, this role may be in a position to hire, onboard and manage an Education Program Manager to support the day-to-day execution of these activities.
Curriculum Development and Teaching:
Working with the investments team, serve as a key stakeholder to plan, budget, oversee, and document all aspects of SIL's educational programming. This includes the design, development, and implementation of: requests for proposals, grantee selection and funding, match-making faculty with practitioners.
Working closely with the SIL Faculty Director, co-lead the curriculum design and implementation of the Impact Lab Design Fellowship.
Serve as the central responsible person for the one-on-one coaching and mentoring relationships of all faculty Impact Lab Design fellows.
Co-lead the Scholars in Service Program in partnership with the Haas Center for Public Service. Serve as the primary point of contact and mentorship for faculty participating in Scholars in Service.
Manage the day-to-day execution and scaling of a new Post-Doctoral Fellowship program, expanding training and opportunities for emerging academics to integrate public impact and collaborative, team-based scholarship into their research and career trajectories.
Lead the graduate student Summer Collaborative Research Fellowship curriculum and program management, giving outstanding doctoral students the opportunity to work on problem-focused research with existing impact labs across the university.
Serve as member of senior leadership team shaping SIL:
Build, manage, and maintain relationships with a broad set of stakeholders including faculty members participating in programs, graduate students, and research teams from across the university. In addition, this role will maintain a portfolio of relationships external with the university and represent SIL in meetings with external partners.
As a new initiative within the university, this role requires the ability to take on new assignments and projects as they arise. Of particular relevance to this role will be initiatives around education and culture within Stanford.
The ideal candidate possesses a passion for connecting academic research to organizations working on the frontlines in tackling social problems, and is ready to work in an dynamic, open and collaborative work environment.
Profiles for a successful candidate for the Director of Education and Training would likely have the following skill sets or background: a) professionals with a strong background in development of education and training programs; b) researchers with practical experience connecting research to program implementation; c) experienced program directors who have worked in startup environments.

Lead and oversee development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of programs. Oversee analysis, reporting, and program improvements. Oversee the development, adherence to, and implementation of program policies and procedures.
Lead strategic planning for the program/entity.
Represent the entity or program to the broader university, external community, and other stakeholders. Provide expert consultation related to program development, funding opportunities, or other specialty area.
Develop outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships and fundraising/funding. Identify external funding opportunities and write proposals and research grants. Develop and oversee strategic financial planning and sustainability for the program/entity, as needed; monitor performance and ensure appropriate controls.
Teach or co-teach courses; oversee the administration of courses; create and/or advise in the development of curriculum; and/or advise students, coach and mentor clients and program staff.
Coach and mentor program staff.
Education & Experience:
Advanced degree and five years of relevant experience in area of specialization or combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience. Advanced degree (PhD in the social sciences preferred) and five years of relevant experience in educational programs or project management, consulting, public policy, nonprofit, philanthropy and/or related fields is also preferred. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans. Experience developing program partnerships and funding sources.
