Director, Elected Leadership Fellowships

The Director, Elected Leadership Fellowships is responsible for designing and executing fellowships that inspire and develop a diverse pipeline of future candidates to run for office. The director will refine and iterate the Elected Leadership Experience as well as design and launch additional fellowships. The director reports to the Senior Director, Elected Leadership Discern. This leader designs programming and experiences designed to inspire diverse members to run for elected office. The director will be responsible for designing the schedule, objectives, and cadence of the fellowships. The director will also be responsible for securing the fellowship hosts, recruiting the fellows, creating a clear plan and community for alumni engagement, and maximizing the number of fellows who run for office within 1-2 years. Furthermore, the director will work with the Elected Leadership Discern subteam to contribute to the development of a robust, diverse, predictable, and standardized pipeline of future candidates. The director will be expected to bring new ideas to evolve on our recruitment model and help the program grow at scale.


Travel Requirements:


  • 10% - All travel is pending due to current restrictions on in-person engagement due to COVID-19. When travel returns there will be 2-3 team retreats a year and travel may be necessary during the launch of different fellowships.

Responsibilities:


Launch, Run, and Develop Elected Leadership Fellowships (65%)



  • Oversee all Elected Leadership Fellowships, including recruitment, outreach, fellow selection, program development and design; coaching and member supports; and building data-driven insights from the program to identify opportunities to increase effectiveness of fellows and the fellowship program

  • Envision, design, and manage the entire member experience from first application to exiting the program as alumni built towards supporting our members to run for elected office

  • Connect and develop relationships with other staff across who manage fellowships to gain insights and identify efficiencies

  • Oversee and manage the Elected Leadership Fellows alumni community, building a network of members who can support each other to build their leadership and professional skills

  • Manage the recruitment and engagement of host campaigns serving as placement sites for fellows

  • Spearhead the development of additional Elected Leadership Fellowship programs to expand beyond our current fellowship offerings to support more members to run for Elected Office


Program Analysis (20%)



  • Evaluate the efficacy of the fellowships to produce members ready to run for elected office

  • Lead the evolution of the fellowships' programmatic supports toward increasingly scalable models for engagement, development and learning

  • Explore new hosting opportunities that will lead to greater impact by reaching more members and communities


Team Strategy and Innovation (10%)


  • Meaningfully contribute to the Elected Leadership-Discern team's continued need to innovate our approach to candidate recruitment and preparation, including sharing and executing new ideas and reflecting on successes and failures of new strategies and tactics

Special Projects (5%)


  • Special projects as assigned by the Senior Director, Elected Leadership Discern

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate years of work experience

  • 5 years of relevant professional experience in program leadership, program management, adult learning, and adult learning principles

  • 3 years experience leading programming, fellowships, or internship programs

  • Experience with or desire to learn coaching

  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement high-quality programming for adult learners

  • Experience in virtual and online learning for adult learners

  • Proven ability to build and leverage relationships with diverse audiences and partners

  • Effective communication skills across multiple media

  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation of plans in fast-moving, changeable environments

  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated success in managing and operating data systems

  • Demonstrated track record of effective communication across a complex organizational structure

  • Ability to analyze data and identify useful metrics and trends to inform strategy

  • Flexible and committed to continuous learning

  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion

  • Strong demonstrated ability to meet the challenge of ambitious goals


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with recruitment, volunteer recruitment (recruiting and supporting volunteers), sales or politics, electoral campaigns, or community organizing

  • Experience personally running for elected office

  • Service on a public board (elected or appointed)

  • Experience in digital engagement

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate within a geographically dispersed team

  • Deep passion for educational equity and belief in mission and theory of change
