POSITION OBJECTIVES:
Scientist/Research Investigator is responsible for cell line development activities including transfection, cell culture maintenance, clone selection, and genetic engineering and characterization of mammalian cell lines for clinical and commercial production. This may include performing laboratory experiments using a variety of molecular biology and cell culture technologies. This position also will optimize current process and develop new methods and technologies to improve platforms and processes.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Employs molecular biology methods for cell line engineering and improvement
Performs phenotypic and genotypic characterizations of the cell lines
Works with departmental and/or cross functional peers to execute on assignments under limited supervision.
Interprets data independently, identifies technical issues and implements solutions under limited supervision
Contributes to the design of new applications and operations in consultation with supervisor; evaluates new technologies and participates in new platform development
Documents experimental procedures with electronic notebook and authors CLD reports for regulatory filings
Presents study results in internal meetings, participates in project meetings/decisions
The candidate will need strong skills with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint to organize and document experimental procedures with electronic notebook and to prepare reports
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Education Requirements
Ph.D. in biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, or related pharmaceutical science
Master's degree in biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, or related pharmaceutical science; 5+ year of biotechnology/biopharmaceutical industry experience in cell line development
Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, or related pharmaceutical science; 7+ years of biotechnology/biopharmaceutical industry experience in cell line development
Previous experience in cell culture and aseptic techniques is required
Previous experience with molecular biology is highly desired
Previous experience in CLD technologies including culture of mammalian cells, single-cell cloning, clonality assessment, and clone screening is a plus

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to troubleshoot and resolve critical and routine issues using appropriate information
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Organization - Ability to manage work load efficiently and in timely manner especially when projects are at a critical stage
Technical - Proficiency in use of applicable lab equipment and operations; experience in maintaining written records of work in the form of laboratory notebooks (paper or electronic)
Communication - Ability to report data, present findings to management
Computer experience in common Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required
