Market Research and Advisory Associate Director will serve as a key strategic partner to Strategic Sourcing & Procurement's ( SS&P ) Global Product Development & Supply team ( GPS )and use their deep functional expertise in drug manufacturing and distribution to help enable business priorities and category requirements through best-in-class market research and insights.
The Market Research and Advisory Associate Director will work closely with the Embedded SS&P GPS Market Intelligence Senior Manager. GPS (Global Product Development & Supply) comprises the manufacture and distribution of products, including: Capital Equipment; Direct Materials; Logistics; Engineering and Construction Services; External Manufacturing; Facilities; MRO ; Product Development & Analytical; Real Estate; and Utilities.
This role will serve as a thought partner and sounding board to category leaders and the Embedded SS&P GPS Market Intelligence Senior Manager, acting as a key source of innovation, ultimately leading to competitive differentiation for the business. This role is expected to identify and manage a portfolio of external research and advisory providers to meet the unique needs for the functional requirements.
The Market Research and Advisory Associate Director role will report into Strategic Sourcing & Procurement's Strategy, Process, & Capability ( SP&C ) team; however, the role will be Embedded within the GPS team. This role will also work on continuous improvement for the market research and advisory capability and provide category teams with additional support on market research and advisory-related activities, as needed.
Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Partners with category leaders and the Embedded SS&P GPS Market Intelligence Senior Manager in SS&P GPS to align market research and advisory needs to business priorities, and uses their deep functional expertise to drive research analysis and advisory of the supply market
Brings outside-in innovation to SS&P GPS and the business, providing the business and function with a competitive advantage
Manages relationships with external research and advisory providers; the Embedded SS&P GPS Market Intelligence Senior Manager consults on these relationships.
Gains visibility into the annual market research and advisory demand for the function
Acts as a single point-of-contact for the cross-functional capability and process teams, and the external research and advisory providers
Supports with escalations related to the function
Remains flexible in approach: balances risk and reward against following a rigid process; inherently can adapt to specific circumstances while maintaining a level of consistency
Conducts and/or oversees supply market research, managing market research and advisory needs for the function, including consultations and prioritization
In consultation with the Embedded SS&P GPS Market Intelligence Senior Manager determines the appropriate external research and advisory provider for market research and advisory requests from the function and meets with the provider to validate requests
Continuously scans market to identify and refine roster of external research and advisory providers and locate relevant data sources
Manages a large book of work across multiple individuals, teams, and geographies. Must be able to bring organization and transparency to a fast-paced environment
Develops and maintains a macro view across markets; follows market dynamics, changes, and trends
Maintains market awareness through merchandise shows, trade periodicals, and other resources, in an effort to support securing new products and pricing information
Pressure tests market research and advisory outputs from external research and advisory providers for company-specific insights, as needed
Proactively shares new insights with SS&P GPS on current and future market conditions (push model)
Evolves the framework of Procurement's market research and advisory capability (continuous improvement, new ways of working, process improvements, etc.)
Provides frameworks, trainings, and advisory support on market research and advisory-related activities (eg, cost modeling, benchmarking), as needed
Manages functional-specific content
Prepares periodic reports of market research and advisory activities within the function

Bachelor's Degree (Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Business, Supply Chain or related business field)
Minimum of 8-10 years of business experience or relevant experience
Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant, category management, consulting/advisory experience, insight generation, reporting, or market research analysis
Extensive industry and functional expertise
Drug manufacturing and distribution proficiency through experience in key GPS categories (eg, Capital Equipment; Direct Materials; Logistics; Engineering and Construction Services; External Manufacturing; Facilities; MRO ; Product Development & Analytical; Real Estate; and Utilities)
Experience leading and participating on cross-functional and/or global teams
Internal stakeholder management, data/information management, category management, process redesign and continuous improvement expertise, project management, and performance measurement skills
Procurement process knowledge, contract management, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier analysis, supplier diversity, supplier management, technology utilization, strategic planning, and integrated supply chain experience
Strong oral, written communication and customer service skills
Strong presentation and communication skills including storytelling through PowerPoint
Ability to operate as a Strategic Advisor: demonstrated ability to partner, manage, and influence
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, inclusive of pivot tables
Professional certifications (eg, CPM, CPIM)
4 years Pharmaceutical Procurement experience
Membership in Professional Associations, eg, ISM
Demonstrated success working in a virtual team environment
