Senior Scientist - Single Cell/Spatial Applications
Posted on Apr 6, 2021 by 10X Genomics
About the role:
We are looking for an outstanding scientist to join our Applications Team. You will work closely with talented cell biologists, biochemists, computational biologists and software engineers to generate data using our single-cell and spatial genomic assays. Our products have allowed researchers to study biology at unprecedented resolution and scale yielding insights in diverse fields such as cancer biology, immunology, neuroscience, developmental and basic biology.
Using existing 10x products, you will apply your understanding of biology to design and execute experiments that allow us to better understand the biological questions that can be answered using 10x tools. You will work closely with our marketing team to define the most relevant and impactful questions to address, and then work with both our internal R&D group or with external partners to solve these problems experimentally. You will then communicate the results in presentations and reports.
You have a strong background in an applied biological science and you have experience working with single cell assays. You have a deep understanding of biology at the cellular and molecular level and are able to discuss how this relates to health and disease. You are a good wet-lab scientist who can take an idea and quickly design an experiment that allows you to gain a better understanding of the biology. You are able to communicate your ideas and work effectively with an interdisciplinary team and incorporate their feedback into your experimental design. You are a strategic thinker, highly motivated, proactive and flexible in changing direction and methods. You thrive in a fast paced environment, excel at managing multiple priorities, communicate clearly and get the job done.
What you will be doing:
Work with the marketing team to understand customer needs and how to best demonstrate the applicability and the power of 10x products
Generate single cell and spatial datasets using on-market or almost market ready 10x products
Work with internal groups at 10x to analyze data, generate figures and provide guidance on write up and data presentation
Collaborate with external partners where needed
Communicate findings to multiple parties (internal, external collaborators or at conferences)
To be successful, you will need:
PhD in the applied biological sciences (eg cancer research, neuroscience, or similar) and 2-3 years additional research experience
Experience designing and performing experiments to address specific questions in a timely manner
Experience in sample preparation and library generation for single-cell RNA-seq or spatial RNA-seq
Experience working on problems involving complex biological systems at high-resolution
Experience in drawing biological findings from large data sets
Evidence of peer-reviewed publications you have authored/co-authored/contributed to
Ability to work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
Ability to communicate complex ideas with an interdisciplinary team
Ability to work independently
Additional highly desirable skills:
Creative problem solver who obsesses over finding useful biologically relevant information in data
Exceptional technical depth in one of more cell biology disciplines, including: flow cytometry, cell sorting, microscopy, CRISPR editing, mouse disease models, histology, cell-based assays
