The Senior Director Cell Therapy Development has overall responsibility for leading the early and late development and execution of Lentivirus and cell therapy drug substance process development and technology transfer for the BioTD organization, allowing the organization to reach its full potential. This includes strategic partnerships with JBIO, JSC, external partners, and directing process development at CMOs.
The Sr. Director for Cell Therapy Development will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
Leading strategy for Lentiviral and cell therapy drug substance process development working with early Discovery (JBIO) through to Janssen Supply Chain.
Establishing and leading world class development infrastructure to deliver against Janssen's innovative robust product portfolio of innovative cell therapy programs to target cancer.
Support development against Immuno-oncology strategies to move cell therapy programs including clinical testing and development strategies for existing clinical programs.
Supporting the growing Janssen portfolio of evolving and novel cell therapeutics, building upon the current autologous platform (individual) and building iPSC allogenic approaches (mass production).
Will continue cell therapy development organization build in Spring House and will be responsible for managing a total of 46 scientists.
Defining and executing on the BioTD cell therapy strategy, in alignment with DPDS functions.
Represent BioTD, and as required DPDS functions, on internal and external cell therapy forums.
Expanding external network of CMOs and academic collaborations.
Assists with developing talent strategies and implements hiring, and broader talent issues and provides people-related decisions for a department/multiple teams within R&D that cultivates innovative culture.
PhD or equivalent in virology, cellular biology, chemical engineering, or microbiology
Experience with lentiviral and cell therapy discovery and process development is required (late development experience a plus).
Demonstrated success with de novo cell therapy and lentiviral process development is required.
Experience with pharmaceutical cell therapy process development is required.
Strong management/leadership skills and demonstrated ability to lead a group of scientists to deliver on objectives in defined timelines is required.
10 years (minimally) of People Management experience is required.
10 years of pharmaceutical experience or relative industry experience is required.
Independent, self-motivated and innovative and the ability to excel in a goal-oriented, multifaceted and fast-moving team environment are required.
Outstanding communication, organizational and leadership skills, with a successful track record of collaborating with cross-functional scientific teams is required.
