Origins, an Estee Lauder Companies brand, seeks an Executive Director of Global Brand Strategy to operate as a strategic partner for the Global Brand SVP/GM and the Origins Leadership Team. This role is responsible for managing the annual global brand strategy and innovation strategy processes, as well as operationalizing, driving, deploying and tracking performance of key strategic initiatives to drive long- term profitable growth for the brand. This role will also support the SVP/GM on special projects. This role reports directly to the VP, Global Finance & Strategy and will serve as a member of the Origins Leadership Team.


Global Brand Strategy (35%)

  • Serve as thought leader/partner to the SVP/GM and Global Brand Leadership Team to formulate and articulate the three-year strategic vision for the brand.

  • Lead the development of the annual global brand strategy (planning, process/project management, market/business analysis, presentation deck creation) in partnership with the Global Brand SVP/GM, VP of Finance & Strategy, and in coordination with the Corporate Strategy function.

    • In partnership with the Leadership Team, outline the Brand Strategy framework and identify/refine key strategic initiatives to further Origins positioning as the leader in active natural skincare.

    • Manage the annual Global Brand Strategy development process, building story, driving strategic clarity, and integration across strategic priorities and themes.

    • Analyze market trends, consumer insights and business needs as well as develop required marketing analyses and financial models to support strategic recommendations

    • Project manage annual Global Brand Strategy process, working with cross-functional teams to drive process, timeline, objectives and project plan. Manage select resources/consultants who may support with presentation deck, reporting, data pull and analysis.

    • Responsible for crafting the presentation to ELC senior leadership, including drafting outline, generating recommendations, creating content, refining storytelling and managing logistics.

    • Outline key follow up actions and implement and track action plan throughout the year.

  • Partner with the Leadership Team to create a strategic implementation plan, ensuring there is clarity of owners, governance, resources, and timing.

  • Drive the operationalization of Brand strategy by routinely monitoring and tracking delivery against KPIs and addressing roadblocks hindering progress (eg barriers to effective decision making and execution, gaps in subject matter expertise, resources, etc.).

Product Innovation Strategy (35%):

  • Partner with Global Marketing, Product Development, and Global Brand SVP/GM in the development of the Product Innovation Strategy, analyzing three-year innovation pipeline and commercial innovation tactics.

  • Analyze market landscape and trends (industry, consumer, channel, and product) by region, identifying white space opportunities, market share gain opportunities, as well as risk mitigation tactics the for the brand from a product perspective

  • Assess breakthrough product innovation concepts, new technologies and innovation pipeline needs, determining brand relevance and opportunity size and build usage plan accordingly

  • Lead in thought partnership, connecting the dots, and liaising across departments to generate required output

  • Responsible for crafting the presentation to ELC senior leadership, including drafting outline, generating recommendations, creating content, refining storytelling and managing logistics.

Strategic Planning (30%):

  • Co-manage the annual long-range planning process with FP&A, specifically on aligning financial LRP with global brand strategy, co-owning the long-range consumer and product models, and liaising with marketing to drive optimal pricing and SKU assortment/rationalization strategy

  • Support analyses needed for annual brand strategy and innovation strategy, as well as for ad-hoc strategic projects, including developing scenario planning, breakeven analyses, building business cases and ROI analyses, measuring post-mortem impact of projects and initiatives, etc.

  • Own relevant input for key brand presentations throughout the year, including CEO reviews, town halls, pre-RRT meetings, etc.

  • Challenge the status quo and seek continuous incremental improvements on existing processes throughout the organization

  • Partner with SVP/GM on special projects/assignments (eg, Senior Leadership presentations, market visits, etc.)


Candidate Profile:

  • 10+ years of brand management, strategic planning, consulting, or investment banking experience; preferably from a top-tier strategy consulting firm/equity research arm, or as part of corporate/brand strategy function within a large corporation. CPG and/or cosmetics industry knowledge strongly preferred

  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, marketing or economics is preferred; MBA, preferred.

  • Superb leadership and relationship building skills across cultures and all levels of management. Ability to navigate and thrive in a Matrix organization and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams

  • Top-notch business acumen, consultative skills, critical thinking, facilitation, and organizational skills. Ability to establish oneself as a thought leader.

  • Must be detail-oriented as well as a broad strategic thinker - demonstrated ability to lead strategy development requiring synthesis of large amounts of complex data into meaningful conclusions.

  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills - with the ability to research, identify and resolve.

  • Entrepreneurial self-starter who can take charge of a project and follow through to completion; must have ability to conceptualize, coordinate, and project manage. Must hold high standards on accuracy and timeliness with an ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Excellent written, oral communication, presentation and negotiation skills. Must have strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Must be comfortable challenging the "status quo and driven by efficiency. Must be able to move from strategy to tactical execution seamlessly.

  • SAP, CPM, Tableau, and Alteryx experience a plus
