Senior Research Chemist, Optical Monomers and Coatings

As a Senior Research Chemist in PPG's Optical Monomers and Coatings business, you will support Research and Development activities and Front End innovation of new OMC products through small molecule and polymer synthesis and lens casting. You will drive new product development through hands-on laboratory experimentation that enables commercialization of optical materials; often by working directly with customers!
Support research and development activities for the development and commercialization of new optical materials.
Act as the project leader on development efforts utilizing experience or the best technology available from any source.
Tackle technical problems through the application of appropriate scientific, experimental, and statistical methods.
Apply fundamental chemistry knowledge and conducting laboratory work to accelerate new product development and introduction to customers, including formulation and testing of new optical materials.
Lead efforts focused on and in support of product optimization, process development, and qualification testing for prospective customers.
Use best-available synthetic methodologies to generate low-cost, high-yield routes to new and existing optical materials.
Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a relevant technical field, such as Physics, Materials Science or Polymer Science with 3+ years of relevant industrial experience.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including customer-facing exposure and ability to convey technical understanding to international audiences.
Experienced detailing and communicating research findings and/or performance testing results via detailed technical reports and publications.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-functional team in a complex, agile, fast paced environment.
Successful track record of applying statistical tools for DOE and data analysis.
