Director, Merchandise Planning

The Director of Merch Planning is responsible for the development and management of merchandise Category plans, in alignment with Customer/Product strategies for Nordstrom, and in partnership with Divisional Buy Plans, Location/Market Assortment Plans, and Inventory teams, including Financial Planning, Deployment, and Price. Supporting a team of Category Planners and Associates, the Director influences the organization from insights through action across a multi-Company assortment strategy, converting dollars to units, clicking below channel to segment/cluster, and nesting Class with Price band, to produce a Cross Divisional assortment plan at scale that includes actionable selection, ASP/AUR, and procurement goals.
A day in the life
Partner with Assortment VP's and Merch Planning Directors/Managers to design rolling twelve-month Category plans as key pre-market inputs to Divisional Supplier Buy Plans that support the customer strategy and produce competitive advantage and superior results
Provide strategic direction and leadership. Act as a change leader to support company initiatives and develop new processes with merchandising partners in evolving operating Organizationel
Develop online selection plans to support Category strategies and Digital Growth initiatives
Proactively identify the need for cross-divisional initiatives and partner to implement appropriate plans. Drive cross-functional collaboration and communication, ensuring alignment on priorities and direction with appropriate groups and leaders.
Support fiscal discipline through adherence to and reconciliation of Merch Financial Plans; partner with Price team on in-season inventory management
Lead Category planners to drive higher levels of performance and overall results based on objective standards. Identify and develop leaders who are promotable throughout the Nordstrom Merchandising Group
Leverage data and analytics to create scale and uncover new ways of thinking about assortments. Analyze assortment health, identifying sales opportunities and diagnose inventory liabilities.
This position reports to the VP Assortment Strategy and supports a team of direct reports.
You own this if you have
Minimum 8 years of multi-channel or omni-channel retail merchandise planning/inventory management or related experience
Demonstrated understanding of retail and the service environment of Nordstrom; Nordstrom experience preferred
Experience managing and supporting a high sales volume category (high SKU count, heavy seasonality, high revenue ($500M+) preferred
Proficiency in MS Office suite required; Expert Excel
Advanced analytical skills, statistical/forecasting proficiency, SQL knowledge preferred
Quantrix knowledge a plus
Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
