National Account Director, West

Gain appropriate access and coverage for Agios products to achieve short and long term goals. The National Account Director will develop, manage and maintain relationships with key customers, including Managed Care Organizations, Government Sponsored Health Plans, PBMs, and Specialty Pharmacies. Where appropriate, the National Account Director will work closely with the Market Access contracting team to develop business cases for contracting with a focus on ROI. In addition, the National Account Director will be expected to develop strong compliant collaboration with field sales leadership to address areas of opportunity or challenges.


Build payer profiles to assess formulary review and coverage policies, utilization controls and level of influence
Meet access and coverage goals, work productivity measures and plan of action for each semester
Create and update account plans
Prepare and present business cases for contracting and lead the negotiation process with customers
Communicate internally payer utilization of pathways or guidelines specific to Agios products
Implement strategic initiatives aimed toward achieving optimal coverage and reimbursement of Agios products
Monitor and report threats and opportunities on an ongoing basis
Complete required training within designated timeline
Represent Agios in a professional manner at key industry conferences such as AMCP, Asembia, and sPCMA


Knowledge of US Payer coverage and reimbursement systems (Private and Government at the federal, state and local levels), genetically defined disease management, regulatory changes, and pharmaceutical channel dynamics
Proven track record for securing and improving product coverage and reimbursement with or without contracting across private and government payers
Skilled in identifying healthcare business trends that affect pharmaceutical utilization
Able to perform in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and communicate complex information clearly
Outstanding customer relationship building skills with ability to work with a diverse audience and influence cross-functionally
Has a strong business acumen and a compliance mindset
Strong collaborator - respectful and accountable


BA/BS required
Minimum of 10 years sales experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals with at least 5 years in hematology/rare disease
5 years of managed market experience with a variety of health care providers/organizations, with preferred working knowledge of Kaiser, Anthem, ESI
Firm understanding of the regulations governing commercial and government payers
Working knowledge of the specialty pharmaceutical landscape
Experience with products through the pharmacy benefit


Up to 50% travel will be required in some geographies
