Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Outreach

The Director manages the operational, strategic, communication and programmatic aspects of all diversity, equity, inclusion, and outreach for the School. This position directs, coordinates, and develops programs which enhance the culture of inclusion at School. The Director contributes significantly to the diversification of School's student body, programming, faculty, and staff. This position liaisons with various school departments and offices, including Graduate Admissions, Student Affairs, Faculty Affairs, Human Resources, and Development. The Director aligns with the University Office of Institutional Diversity & Inclusion and develops partnerships with external organizations and affiliated schools. The Director advises and counsels students, faculty, and staff on personal, academic, and professional matters related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and outreach.

Specific Responsibilities:

Administrative Oversight and Planning:

  • Assumes leadership for the direction, goals, and implementation of the school's strategic mission towards diversity, equity, inclusion, and outreach.

  • Works with numerous departments, offices and affiliates to build new relationships to increase the awareness of diversity, reinforce the educational value of cultural competency, and strengthen the school's sense of community.

  • Accountable for the successful execution of programs, events, and activities.

  • Seeks innovative strategies to fulfill the school's diversity, equity, inclusion, and outreach goals.

  • Represents the school at various meetings for efforts related to community outreach and other related topics.


  • Contributes to faculty, staff, and student recruitment goals by developing new techniques and approaches for recruitment with the expressed goal of creating an equitable, diverse and inclusive community

Event Planning:

  • Coordinates and oversees all programmatic aspects of diversity-focused events and trainings.

  • Seeks innovative opportunities for additional outreach to internal and external communities.

  • Assists student, faculty, and staff organizations with various requests and needs.

Diversity Council Support:

  • Provides guidance, leadership, goals and strategic vision for the school's Diversity Council.

  • Leads the development, implementation, and administration of new diversity initiatives.

  • Designs innovative approaches to educating the school's community on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural competency.


  • Collaborates with colleagues across the school to help advance strategic goals and improve the educational experience of our students.

  • Serves as an advisor and consultant for faculty members on diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices for curriculum, pedagogy, student interactions and engagement.

  • Works closely with Sr. Learning Engineer and Associate Deans to ensure best practices are applied to all courses and supporting materials.

Personnel Management:

  • Provides direct management counseling for faculty and staff supervisors.

  • Serves as a consultant for school leadership on diversity-related matters.

  • Recommends complex HR solutions & implements decisions.

  • Institutes diversity-related departmental policy & implements school & policy and procedure.

  • Acts as a coach for complaints within the community related to diversity, equity and inclusion concerns.

Communications & Training:

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive communication and training strategy related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors degree is the minimum requirement. A higher degree, MS or PhD, is preferred.

  • Structured training in Diversity & Inclusion or appropriate experience in the broad domains of diversity and inclusion are highly preferred.

  • Three to five years previous experience in an academic/educational setting or in a diversity, equity, inclusion role.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while managing deadlines.

  • Ability to work with others at all levels of the organization effectively.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Professional demeanor and ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated leader with success in the diversity, equity, and inclusion space.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated leadership in organizational change.

  • Experience developing and implementing programs.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Prior success managing a corporate or not-for-profit Diversity Office or Initiative.

  • Experience working with students, in particular large international student populations.
